 Anderson, the 2017 recipient of the Mertz Mortorelli Coaching Achievement Award, graduated from UW-Superior in 1961 and went on to achieve a distinguished career as a coach at the collegiate level. Anderson coached men's gymnastics and tennis at Bemidji State University and St. Cloud State University, where he helped numerous student-athletes become All-Americans and national champions. In 1976 Anderson was named the NCAA Gymnastics Coach of the Year.
  • Coached at Bemidji State from 1962 to 1966 and St. Cloud State from 1966 to 1978, where he developed the varsity program
  • Coached 18 All-Americans and 12 individual national champions in gymnastics
  • Coached his gymnastics teams to three undefeated seasons, over 150 wins, 25 invitational wins and to place in the top three on four occasions
  • His team won the NAIA National Trampoline
    Championship in 1969
  • Voted NCAA Gymnastics Coach of the Year in 1976
