A native of Florianopolis, Brazil, Gubio Henrique came to UW-Superior in in 2006, and made a resounding and immediate impact on the men's soccer program. He was induction into the UW-Superior Athletic Hall of Fame on 2022.

As a freshman in 2006, Henrique scored a then-school record 17 goals and helped the Yellowjackets to a 13-3-2 mark, the best single-season record for the program at the time. For his work on the pitch, Henrique was named the team's Most Improved Player. As a sophomore and junior, Henrique captained the Yellowjackets and both times he would be named team MVP. Henrique would go on to score 37 goals in his three seasons, a then-school record that would stand until Jon Bucklew surpassed the total in 2017.

One of the best players to ever come through the Yellowjacket men's soccer program, Henrique played during a time where UW-Superior was a member of the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference. At that time, men's soccer was not sponsored by the conference as a championship sport. Consequently, the Yellowjackets played a schedule as an independent, and as a result, Henrique did not have the opportunity to earn any all-conference recognition. Due to the National Soccer Coaches Association of America voting structure, a player without any type of conference award is at a severe disadvantage for all-region and all-American recognition.

Despite being a dominant performer on the pitch, Henrique was not recognized on the national stage as much as he should have been. Still, the lack of conference, regional and national honors does not diminish his star-studded career.

Henrique's play, the passion and joy he brought to the soccer pitch every day, left an indelible mark on the program.
