Jeff Bottem was a member of the Yellowjacket men's hockey team that claimed the 1976 NAIA National Championship, the first national title in school history. In the championship game, hosted at Wessman Arena, Bottem recorded a hat trick and was named to the all-tournament team for his efforts. During that year, Bottem leaped atop the Yellowjacket record book as the all-time leader in assists, along with garnering the most assists in a single season. As a senior, he received all-conference and all-district 14 honors as he captained the Yellowjackets on the ice. 50 years later, both his single-season and total assists still claim the top spot in program history, while he ranks sixth in career points.
