University of Wisconsin-Superior Athletic Hall of Fame
Jim originally planned to attend Montana State University on a football scholarship, but an injury resulted in him losing that opportunity, and he instead opted for UW-Superior. Here, he tried to compete in both football and track and field, but injuries derailed his athletic career and started on the path of athletic training.
Â
Under the tutelage of now fellow Hall of Fame member David Kroll, Jim became a student trainer at UW-Superior, with the high-water mark coming with him assisting the 1993-94 men’s hockey team, which finished second in the nation.
Â
Since graduating, Jim has worked as an athletic trainer at Augsburg University, and currently serves as the head athletic trainer at the University of St. Thomas. In more than three decades in the field, Rakow has impacted the lives of thousands of student-athletes and coaches.
