Tammy Nelson was an outstanding softball player at UW-Superior, earning the distinction of entering the Hall of Fame both as an individual and as a member of the 1988 Yellowjacket softball team.

Ms. Nelson earned the team's Most Improved Softball Player Award following the 1987-88 season. In 1988, as a pitcher for the conference and district championship team, she shared the NCAA Division III Softball Statistical Championship in Earned Run Average.

The following season Ms. Nelson pitched a no-hitter and was named to the All-Conference softball team. In 1990, she posted a 1.06 ERA and again was named All-Conference along with being named to the All NAIA District 15 team. She concluded her career in 1990 with 33 wins in 347.11 innings pitched.

A teammate said, "Tammy was a major part of the success of the softball team. She was a great pitcher and leader. Whenever you needed that key bunt or hit, she was there for the team."
