After a standout career as a Yellowjacket athlete, the 2015 UWS Athletic Hall of Fame inductee and recipient of the Mertz Mortorelli Coaching Achievement Award, Cal Callaway embarked on a coaching career and became one of the most decorated high school coaches in the country. From 1965-83 Callaway was a football coach in the Oregon (Wis.) School District and fashioned a record of 108-46-10.

Callaway's teams won 78 percent of their games during his career. Callaway was inducted into the Wisconsin High School Coaches Hall of Fame in 1989 and the National High School Coaches Hall of Fame in 2006.

Honors and Achievements

  • Coached for 20 years in football, wrestling, and track
  • From 1965-1983, teams compiled a record of 108 wins, 46 losses, 10 ties and 10 conference championships in two conferences -Madison Suburban and Badger Conferences
  • Founding committee member of the Wisconsin High School Football Coaches Association, and served as Secretary-Treasurer/Executive Secretary from 1975-1989
  • 1977 -- Served from inception on the organizing committee for the Annual Wisconsin High School Football Clinic
  • 1977 -- Served on advisory committee to WIAA that established the present day play-off procedure and played a key role in bringing representatives from the WIAA and the University of Wisconsin together to approve Camp Randall as the site for the WIAA State High School Championship games
  • Distinguished Service Award Recipient -National High School Athletic Coaches Association in 1990
