A native of Strathmore, Alberta, Braden came to UW-Superior in 2006 and immediately made an impact, leading the team in scoring and joining fellow freshmen Chris Berry and Corey Stark to form a potent freshman trio. As a junior in 2008-09 he once again led the team in scoring and helped the Yellowjackets win the NCHA regular season championship before heading to the NCAA tournament, where they fell one game short of the NCAA Frozen Fou. After the season Desmet was named All-NCHA First Team and All-American First Team by the American Hockey Coaches Association. He finished his career at UW-Superior having played 92 games, scoring 38 goals and 62 assists for 100 points, making him the 38th player in program history to reach the 100-point plateau.
