An outstanding athlete, coach, and judge, Carl H. Daley attended Superior Normal School from 1908 to 1913. He was active in athletics, serving as captain of both the football and basketball teams. After graduating he became a teacher and coach at Nelson Dewey School in Superior and then, in 1918, moved to Superior Central High School to teach and to coach. Among the members of his basketball team were Ted Whereatt, whose name would one day be bestowed upon UW-Superior's baseball field, and Ernie Nevers, who went on to a career in professional football.

Daley left teaching in 1919 to become Superior's comptroller. After two years in that job, he left to attend the University of Wisconsin Law School. After graduating, he returned to Superior to practice law. He was active in numerous civic, professional and fraternal organizations in the community. In 1940 he successfully ran for the position of Circuit Court Judge for the Eleventh Judicial District of Wisconsin and was continuously reelected until he retired in 1962. After retiring, Daley spent the next eight years serving as a Reserve Circuit Judge in Milwaukee.
