Bob Alleva of Red Wing, Minn. was an outstanding two-sport athlete at UW-Superior who went on to a distinguished career as a high school athletics coach. He is inducted into the Hall of Fame as recipient of the Mertz Mortorelli Coaching Achievement Award, named as the university's legendary football coach.

At UW-Superior, Mr. Alleva played three years of varsity football for Coach Mertz Mortorelli and spent four years on the Yellowjacket gymnastics team, becoming that team’s first four-year letterman.

After graduating in 1970, Mr. Alleva began a 35-year education career that included coaching football, baseball, tennis, Nordic skiing and youth hockey in Red Wing, Minnesota, and coached boys’ and girls’ alpine skiing in Hastings, Minnesota. Mr. Alleva’s coaching achievements include leading his teams to boys’ state championships, eight regional championships, six conference championships and six championships at the Welch Village Ski Area – one of the largest ski meets in the nation. Coaching 83 All-Conference racers and 30 individual state qualifiers. Leading by example, Mr. Alleva is an outstanding Nordic skier, earning “elite” status in noted regional and national races.
