Mas Fukushima of Owatonna, Minn., was one of the University of Wisconsin-Superior's all-time great hockey players who was credited with helping start the team on its path to national prominence.

Fukushima was named to the NAIA All-Tournament Team in 1972, named NAIA All-American in 1974 and 1975, and named UW-Superior's Most Valuable Player in hockey in 1974 and 1975. At the time of his induction, he was eighth on the school's list of all-time scorers with 152 points.

After receiving his bachelor's degree in education in 1975, Fukushima played professionally for the Green Bay Bobcats of the United States Hockey League and the Seibu Bears in Japan.

From 1977-83, he taught physical education and coached hockey at Superior Senior High School, leading its boy's hockey team to state championships in 1981 and 1982 and to a state runner-up finish in 1983. He taught physical education and launched the hockey program in Winona, Minn., before taking his current job teaching physical education in Owatonna. After a four-year stint as coach of the boys' hockey team, he started the girls' varsity hockey program in 1995, eventually winning a conference title and sectional championship.
